IMPORTANCE OF MEDIA LITERACY



Media literacy education provides tools to help people develop receptive media capability to critically analyze messages, offers opportunities for learners to broaden their experience of media, and helps them develop generative media capability to increase creative skills in making their own media messages.

Media literacy serves in the development of critical thinking skills, offering a tool to examine and to unpack diversity issues as they are represented in the media and conveyed in students' experiences


What is the importance of media in teaching and learning?

.Media in the classroom engage students in learning and provide a richer experience. Media are useful tools for illustrating a lesson, allowing students to see examples of what they are learning. Interactive media such as Smart Boards allow students to move items on a screen for illustrative purposes.

Main purpose of media and information literacy

Information and media literacy (IML) enables people to show and make informed judgments as users of information and media, as well as to become skillful creators and producers of information and media messages. IML is a combination of information literacy and media literacy.

 Effective is media literacy

✶The findings of the current study showed that using awareness increasing strategies regarding daily media consumption, negative effects of the media, and different possible reactions toward them led to a significant improvement in the intervention group students' development from pre contemplation to  contemplation 

✶Academic success, personal empowerment, greater economic opportunities, and active civic participation are all literacy benefits that expand opportunities for students to develop their full academic and societal potential.

✶Media literacy is the ability to access, analyze, evaluate, and create media in all its forms. It is important to be media literate so that you do not accept these media messages at face value, but instead to be critical and decide whether you will accept the messages being offered, or reject them.
